PEM Sheet Metal maintains an advanced 3D CAD design capability. This is enables us to
design products or engineer solutions that exactly match our customers needs and to provide photorealistic images of a design for evaluation before moving to production.
We employ the latest technologies and machinery to manufacture your products. We offer CNC Punching, CNC Laser Cutting / Profiling and CNC forming - these are interfaced
directly to our CAD. PEM Sheet Metal has the largest sub contract precision welding capacity in Essex. We use state of the art TIG welding to produce complex fabrications and
enclosures, and we offer coded welding equivalent to BS EN 287 and BS EN 288. All stages of a product’s manufacturing process is tracked via our custom manufacturing database
system so we can offer full Q.A. and traceability if required.
There is still a place in modern manufacturing for skilled artisans, especially when it comes
to prototypes or smaller production runs, custom fabrication work or assemblies. PEM sheet metal employs some of the best with experience in all aspects of sheet metal work, metal
enclosure manufacture and precision fabrications. Stainless welding and aluminium welding in thin sheet metal is a specialist discipline and is a growing part of our business,
we have the latest computerized inverter TIG welding equipment and highly skilled staff to ensure the highest quality results.
Major Investment planned for January 2010 - Laser Cutting Profiling System
PEM Sheet Metal is starting a major investment program in January 2010. To increase our capabilities and capacity PEM is installing a Trumpf 3050 laser
cutting cell. This machine will provide state of the art laser cutting and profiling in materials up to 25 mm thick and sheet sizes up to 3m x 1.5m or
massing up to 1 ton. Due to the extremely powerful and controllable laser resonator (5000 watts), the precision assist gas system and advanced
computer control, this machine will provide perfectly clean cut edges on components even operating at extremely high speeds. PEM Sheet Metal
anticipates a general reduction in lead time of 2 days, a 20% saving in raw material usage and increased component quality over conventional profiling methods. This will compliment our existing 3 CNC Punch Press systems.
To drive this laser cutter efficiently PEM has purchased Radan’s Advanced Nesting software. This will enable the implementation of massively dissimilar
part nesting, driven automatically by our computerized production control system. PEM is also enhancing our infrastructure to support the laser cutter with
300 mm reinforced concrete foundations, more efficient compressed air systems, faster computer systems, renovation of our Unit 6 facility, installation of
cranes and vacuum handling to 1000 kg, and the installation of cryogenic nitrogen and oxygen storage.
Laser Cutting Update 05/04/10
Sub contract laser cutting service lead times reducing as we are becoming more familiar with the systems. Functions such as laser engraving are now being used.
More exotic metals such as pure iron have now been very successfully processed. Generally PEM is around 4 weeks ahead of schedule in terms of operating techniques and turnover on the laser system.
Laser Cutting Update 15/04/10
Laser Cutting system has now become PEM Sheet metals’s primary profiling system. The laser is now profiling the work that used to be run on 3 CNC punch presses in
addition to a significant amount of subcontract laser cutting work. Our capacity on CNC punching is now being fill with work for new clients, who’s products lend themselves to turret punches rather than laser cutting.
Laser Cutting Update 22/04/10
Lastest analysis shows that PEM has exceeded the initial estimated saving in raw material of 20%. Laser cutting components that used to be run on punch presses together with our initial implementation of massively dissimilar part nesting has seen typical sheet utilization rise from 56% to over 80%.

PEM Sheet Metal provide class leading service to the electronics, medical and rail industries.
Many of our customers are prestigious technology based companies. At PEM
Sheet Metal we recognise that no matter how well a product performs, or whatever the technology inside, the first thing your customer sees is the enclosure. Your customer will perceive the quality of your product by it’s case
work. We know that quality products require superior enclosures and panel work. After all, first impressions count.
Since 1999 PEM has instigated an ongoing series of practical measures to minimise our environmental impact. Please see our Environmental page for further information.
Please review our website. There are many images of various products we have produced for our clients but this is a very small fraction of what we have manufactured. Should you wish to discuss your particular requirements please
contact us - you will get a quick, friendly and informed answer - and you may be surprised by just what we are able to do.
Whether your requirements are for brackets, sheet metal punching and forming
, laser cutting and profiling, basic or advanced welding, through to custom electronics racks, fabrications, cases or sheet metal enclosure assemblies PEM Sheet Metal has the skills to meet your needs.
