PEM Sheet metal Ltd provides a complete and rapid service in subcontract laser cutting, precision sheet metal fabrication, enclosures, welding and light engineering.

We are advanced fine limit sheet metal fabricators, specialising in precision stainless, steel and aluminium fabrications from simple brackets through to complex metal enclosures, cabinets, custom lighting and architectural work. Typically for communications, medical, commercial or interior and exterior design applications.

We use 3D CAD with advanced CNC laser cutting up to 5KW, CNC punching and forming and precision welding to manufacture your products to exacting requirements, and we do it fast.

Stainless Enclosure laser cutting PEM Sheet Metal maintains an advanced 3D CAD design capability. This is enables us to design products or engineer solutions that exactly match our customers needs and to provide photorealistic images of a design for evaluation before moving to production.

We employ the latest technologies and machinery to manufacture your products. We offer CNC Punching, CNC Laser Cutting / Profiling and CNC forming - these are interfaced directly to our CAD. PEM Sheet Metal has the largest sub contract precision welding capacity in Essex. We use state of the art TIG welding to produce complex fabrications and enclosures, and we offer coded welding equivalent to BS EN 287, BS EN 288 and ASME IX. All stages of a product’s manufacturing process is tracked via our custom manufacturing database system so we can offer full Q.A. and traceability if required.

There is still a place in modern manufacturing for skilled artisans, especially when it comes to prototypes or smaller production runs, custom fabrication work or assemblies. PEM sheet metal employs some of the best with experience in all aspects of sheet metal work, metal enclosure manufacture and precision fabrications. Stainless welding and aluminium welding in thin sheet metal is a specialist discipline and is a growing part of our business, we have the latest computerized inverter TIG welding equipment and highly skilled staff to ensure the highest quality results.

2012 - Robotic Welding

Fanuc_Arcmate_100i_M6i_Welding_robot_with PEM is currently installing a Fanuc Robotics ArcMate Robotic welding system. Due to be commissioned early in 2012 this machine will provide accurate (+/- 0.1 mm) and repeatable MIG welding at up to 450 amps in Mild Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminum.

Integrated with our 3D CAD for programming and using our laser cutting system to profile standardized jig parts we anticipate one time only jigging times in the order of 1 day for simple components, after which changing from welding one component to another should be around 1 hour. This provides a flexible manufacturing approach, which should be cost effective for even small runs of repeating batch work.

PEM’s implementation of this technology will further increase our welding capacity and compliment our skilled welding staff enabling them to concentrate on smaller non repeating components and more highly skilled welding techniques.

The adoption of Robotic systems in general is part of PEM’s stated policy of flexible manufacturing, using advanced automated systems, whilst retaining our high manual skills base.

23/01/11 - The robotic welding cell has been installed and is under going commissioning and trials. Analysis of weld parameters will begin 24/01/11.

New in 2011 - Subcontract Laser Cutting Service

PEM Sheet Metal offers a subcontract laser cutting and profiling service. To increase our capabilities and capacity PEM has installed a Trumpf 3050 laser cutting cell. This machine provides state of the art laser cutting and profiling in materials up to 25 mm thick and sheet sizes up to 3m x 1.5m or massing up to 1 ton. Due to the extremely powerful and controllable laser resonator (5000 watts), the precision assist gas system and advanced computer control, this machine provides perfectly clean cut edges on components even operating at extremely high speeds.

To drive this laser cutter efficiently PEM has purchased Radan’s Advanced Nesting software. Together with our SolidWorks 3D CAD systems this enables the implementation of massively dissimilar part nesting, driven automatically by our computerized production control system.

Commissioned in 2010 this machine compliments our existing CNC punch presses and CNC press brakes, providing burr free and accurate profiling for PEM’s sheet metal and fabricated components and as a stand alone sub contract laser cutting service.
